I can say with extreme confidence that archaeologist have been wrong on classifying the majority of the reports being natural. The stones were indeed a tool that were utilized for lithic reduction. If the patterns did not recur across different types of stone I might have been convinced they were just rock. The simple realization that "Rocks around here don't look like this" seems enough for me to be proof. I especially enjoy looking at them as works in progress since I have only found a few that are complete. I believe hand held spirit stones were passed along down generations. That is my way of understanding the amount of polish and oil residue absorbed by the stone. It helps with understanding the evolutionary progression of creating one effigy that turns into another and then into another until 10 or more animals and faces are recognizable in one piece. I believe understanding stone carving as an art form would help others appreciate the systematic steps being taken to arrive at a desired form.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6057432722659257077.post-90051344134485107682018-04-07T20:01:54.516-04:002018-04-07T20:01:54.516-04:00I also live in Tennessee and have a large collecti...I also live in Tennessee and have a large collection. I could spend one hour and find hundreds of 'bird' shaped stones. These ranged from an inch to five feet! Everything on my property was shaped in this manner. I even collected five banquet size tables stacked with rocks that were carved the same exact manner. Each had a 'foot' as I describe it.. That made every stone stand. And each has an eye. You can imagine almost 20 years ago, my only research was Clovis..which did not fit. I found stone tools. My dog also brought back a human bone that I immediately threw away. I was only a young mother and had no idea the consequences of that find. I found a rock with a petrified chickens foot in it that still contained the skin. Every Boulder on my property was in the shape of a bird. Every tiny stone was also shaped the same way. I tried and failed to find someone that would listen or look at the the thousands and thousands of stones that were identical! However no one would acknowledge that it was anything other than my imagination if it were not a Clovis Tyoe Arrow Head. What I was finding was stone'. After many years of finding incredible artifacts on only 5 acres of land, I lost that property to a bank scandal. I have recently moved into a large mountainous region only 2 miles from my previous discoveries. I simply made a trip down the creek and up the mountain... And the stones I discovered are Identical! I even found a stone that was quite clearly what I describe as a self portrait, Mother Nature cannot explain what I found. It also cannot explain my fascination with finding them. I can spend just hours on any given day and fine the exact same artifacts in the hundreds. It has been 15 years since I have researched this. I always knew it wasn't native Americans... But something MuCh Much Much older. My property even contained prints in limestone, water spouts.. And so much more I don't even remember. I am convinced beyond doubt that someone was here.. in Tennesee.. long before the Native Americans.. and almost certain I can prove it.Ak94u2luvrockshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18137563284266407753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6057432722659257077.post-13407997516519847792018-03-07T11:26:18.518-05:002018-03-07T11:26:18.518-05:00Following up on my previous posting, here is a com...Following up on my previous posting, here is a comment in response to a YouTube video posted by the Nasher Sculpture Center:

"Neandertals produced no depictions. There is nothing in the extensive archaeological record that could in any way be construed as a Neandertal's representation of an animal, or a person, or indeed of anything." So writes Thomas Wynn in his book "How to Think Like a Neandertal".

And now Dr. Wynn, a theoretical anthropologist with little apparent understanding of lithic material, has paired up with a wealthy pop artist in producing an elaborate dog-and-pony show promoting themselves as the discoverers of iconistic expression in stone by our hominin predecessors, blatantly misappropriating the work and intellectual property of independent researchers employing a science-based methodology. Almost incredibly, they are even hijacking the term "figure stone", which fell into disuse at the beginning of the twentieth century and was revived fifteen years ago by the website daysknob.com which, along with palaeoart.com, seems to have provided much of Wynn's and Berlant's (unacknowledged) inspiration. (The likely basis for the well presented neuroscience component of their exhibit can be seen at daysknob.com/Face-Recognition.htm .)

Billed as "the first museum exhibition to present ancient handaxes and figure stones as works of art", it falls well short of this, and even a modicum of due diligence on the part of the curators would have made this evident. There was, among others, the April 2000 exhibit "Werktuigen en kunst (tools and art) van de Neanderthalers uit Fontmaure, Midden-Frankrijk" at the Museon in the Hague, which displayed some of the same Fontmaure stones now shown at the Nasher. And in July 2015 there was Richard Wilson's large display at the Watford Museum near London, which, being honest, he titled "Neanderthal Art II - The Fontmaure Figure-Stones".

And speaking of Richard Wilson, Dr. Wynn and Mr. Berlant visited with him during their trip to the British Museum, querying him extensively on his research but failing entirely to mention him in their big and glossy "scholarly catalog" accompanying the Nasher display. At the same time, they gush about their "stimulating talks with Dr. Nick Ashton of the British Museum", who has long been disparaging the whole figure stones concept.

Giving credit where it is due, this is a beautifully configured exhibit, and it seems no expense was spared in acquiring the artifacts on display. When I visited on 22 February 2018, the staff were at all times friendly and helpful. It's just sad that the curators are apparently so disingenuous and self-serving.

ADhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09656187055895441038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6057432722659257077.post-87285337833463213072018-02-28T20:35:03.836-05:002018-02-28T20:35:03.836-05:00Hi! I get so discouraged when I fefeel li no one else knows or cares about the true ancient history of the United States. Fifteen years ago, I started looking for fossils in the creeks and streams on my property in Kentucky. Of course I ffoun so much more than fossils! Getting people to believe me is the hard part. I mean there are just so many examples that these "rocks" cannot be simply coincidentally resembling tools, various animals and human experience. If it's not shaped like a normal rock, it is worth looking at twice. I have around 500-600 great pieces and nothing to do with them...other than enjoy them while people obviously think I need a padded eoor somewhere. I will say that two miles from me is an ancient burial mound and at least Google maps recognize that as "Ice Age burial mound." I really want to show off my amazing collection!
